POWER is a community-engaged research project funded by the National Cancer Institute through 2029 as part of the VA-ACCERT Center.
Our goal is to collaborate with residents of income-based housing to develop a program that can help them meet their goals for nutritious eating and physical activity.
We know that there are many structural challenges that make it hard for individuals to meet these goals: things like the cost and availability of food, access to resources, and the neighborhood environment. POWER will work with individuals, communities, and organizations to reduce the impact of these big-picture barriers to health for residents of income-based housing in Virginia.

Our priority is to build long-lasting community relationships to make sure that POWER serves people in a way that is realistic and sustainable. This website is part of that commitment. We will post regular updates to let community members know what projects are going on and what we’ve learned so far. In addition, we will provide information about upcoming community events focused on health and wellness. Plus, we have a page dedicated to local and national resources.
